Product Details

Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is a standard M1910 aluminum canteen made in 1918 and stamped on the reverse U.S. AGM Co. 1918.

However, this is not just an ordinary canteen but a canvas for a very skilled (and bored) engraver (soldier) named George E. Page of Pittsburgh Kansas was assigned to Battery C. 130th Field Artillery Regiment, 35th Division. Apparently George had lots of down time in the trenches during the Great War. The canteen features a federal eagle with crossed American and French flags in the eagle talons and reads:

A.E.F
BTRY C. 130 F.A.
WORLD'S WAR
1914-1918
FREEDOM

ACTIVE
FRONTS
ALSACE
ST MICHAEL
VERDUN
BATTLES
ALSACE

The cup featured a star with crossed French and American flags as well as a flower and a heart and reads:

U.S.
A.E.F
LIBERTY OR DEATH
BTRY C. 130TH F.A
1914- 1918
GEO. E. PAGE

ENG.
U.S.A
ALS.
FRA.
IRE.
SCOT.

WOLRD'S WAR
June-2 Sept-1 1918

We verified George E. Page was a member of Battery C. in the official 103th FA roster and we were able to locate a copy of his draft card which will be included with purchase. A lovely genuine piece of identified trench art created during the monotonous hours of down time in the trenches during World War I.
