About the Artist:
Shirley graduated with a BS in science and a minor in art. She has always been fascinated with making things from clay for as long as she can remember.
As an adult, Shirley bought a small kiln and began sculpting. Shirley has also mastered Raku. She enrolled in pottery classes and eventually opened her own gift shop/gallery. She taught clay classes to children in the back of her shop and wrote grants for “Artist in Residence” programs at her children’s school.
In 2000, Shirley began showing her work in fine art shows. Later, she studied alternative firing at Maitland Art Center and fell in love with saggar firing. Many of her pieces are inspired by nature.
